1897-O VAM-6A Reverse Breaks, Near Date, High O Tilted Right
Discovered by Michael Fey, July 2005.
This coin is a WOW! Morgan VAM.
6A III23 · C3e (Near Date, High O Tilted Right, Die Break Left Reverse Star) (181) I-2 R-6
Reverse C3e– Die crack thru tops of UNITE letters down to left star where it widens with displaced field. Die Crack down from right wreath thru top of O and bottom of D in DOLLAR with break below D.
Comments:
1. Since VAM numbers are assigned by die classification, and not just by die pairing, multiple die pairings may exist.
2. VAM-6A is the key variety for the 1897-O date, with rarity set at R-6. It is a mid die state of VAM-6, which is characterized by a near date and a high mint mark tilted right.

The original discovery noted the breaks between the left star and UNITED.
The image below is still VAM-6.
There is a displaced field from the broken star (to the left of ONE on the reverse) above UNITED... This displaced field MUST be there for the coin to be a 6A.
Three separate cracks cross in at the lower left of the D. The intersection resulted in a full break at that location under the base of D.

This is a rather early die state.
