Obverse III2 1 Late die states show die cracks around 5 & 6 right stars with break from fifth star to hair.
Die marker - Two vertical polishing lines in front of eye.
Reverse C3a – Die gouge on lower right side of eagle’s neck over to eagle’s left wing edge.

Comment:

  1. Reverse is used on 1882-P VAM-1E & 1882-P VAM-23. Also what VAMming is about relates somewhat to this coin. It was listed back in May, 2007 and delisted Oct., 2010. On a discussion in Oct., 2011, the VAMming community got together and through their joint efforts realized that this coin should be reinstated. Through the efforts of all involved, Leroy Van Allen recognized their work and reinstated this coin.
  2. There are 3 distinct polish lines in hair curl next to the ear.
  3. Multple polish lines in front of eye.
