1880-O VAM-43 Doubled Ear, Medium O/O Center, Doubled Reverse Legend

Discovered by Jeff Oxman, October 1984. Revised 2010.
This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM.
43 (revised) III2 32 - C3i (Doubled Ear, Medium O/O Center,Doubled Reverse Legend) (176) I-3 R-3
Obverse III2 32- Ear doubled on right side of inner ear fill and outside. Hair above ear slightly doubled as is eyelid and lower cotton leaf edge. Second 8 doubled at lower left outside of upper loop.
Reverse C3i- Medium mint mark doubled inside as thin vertical line in middle of opening. Slightly doubled reverse legend, left star and some leaves in left wreath towards rim.

1. This doubled ear variety shows doubling at the back and lower part of Liberty's ear. The doubling is not as dramatic as 1891 VAM-2 doubled ear, but it is strong doubling none the less. Gouge across lower stem of "T" in sta"T"es. This VAM can come With or Without the bar in between the 8's.
