1879-S VAM-34 Parallel Arrow Feather, Engraved Wing Feather
Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1979.
This is a Reverse of '78 (PAF) coin and a Top 100* VAM variety.
34 III2 2c · B2g (PAF, Engraved Wing Feather) (183) I-4 R-6
Obverse III2 2c – Open 9. Die marker- Triple diagonal polishing lines in lower part of T in LIBERTY.
Reverse B2g – Partial broken r in Trust with upper serif almost completely missing. Feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg. Die marker- Double vertical polishing lines in lower part of eagle’s left wing next to body. Later die state with additional thin diagonal polishing line in lower part of eagle’s right wing.
1. This obverse die was used on VAM-34 and VAM-65.
2. Top of the right serif of R in TRUST is broken and all that remains is the bottom edge. Open 9. Engraved Wing Feather.
3. This reverse die was used on vam 34,34A,vam 35,vam 39. Later die state than VAM-39,35 with the additional polishing line in eagle’s right wing.
