1879-S VAM-23 PAF, Die Rust Dots on Wing Next to Leg
Discovered by Jim Baxter, July 1978.
This is a Reverse of '78 (PAF) coin and a Top 100 VAM variety.

Obverse III2 4 – Open 9 in date doubled on left inside and left outside of both loops. Die markers- Thin long nearly horizontal polishing line left from junction of lower two cotton leaves, double polishing lines in cap fold.
Reverse B2a – Latest die state has been further polished down.
LVA Plate Photos:
An indicated below, there is a thin long nearly horizontal polishing line from the junction of the lower two cotton leaves.
As illustrated, there is a double polishing line in the cap fold.
In the date there is an open 9 which is doubled on the inside and outside of both loops. The 7 is doubled on the bottom of the crossbar.
There is a full 'r' in trust on the reverse.
There is pitting in the engraved feather area.
The mintmark is not tilted and the tail feathers are overpolished.
