1878-S VAM-58 Long Nock Reverse, S Set High

Discovered by Jeff Oxman,April 1995.
This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. This coin is a Top 30 1878-S Variety as well as a 2011 Roberts 11.
58 II 25 · B1c (Long Center Arrow Feather, S Set High) ( ? ) I-5 R-7
Obverse 25– Thick spike just below eyelid in front of eye. Slight doubling inside inner ear.
Reverse B1c– Small III S mint mark set high, slightly to left and upright.

1. The VAM-58 is one of the easier long nocks to attribute. It has a massive eye spike like no other long nock VAM.
2. Long Nocks include VAM-26, VAM-27, VAM-56, VAM-57, VAM-58, VAM-59, VAM-60, VAM-62, and VAM-72.

The S mint mark is set high and left.
And of course, VAM-58 is a Long Nock VAM with the center of the arrow being longer in the back than most common 1878-S coins.
