1884-S Die Chip on Wreath Leaf..........

Post by bigjayvee » Sat Oct 12, 2019 5:28 pm

Checking out this well traveled 84-S and looks like a chip on the wreath leaf under the "U" in United. Not my date, but checked and found no chip listed under the "U". Far date and also looks like MPD in denticles, but like I said "well traveled". Any help with attribution would be appreciated.

John, I think that "chip" on the wreath leaf is a product of a C3 hub. I see it on many later date Morgans in my die studies. I think it is more pronounced with stronger strikes, which the SF Mint was known for.
