1921 P VAM 3FP photos

Post by lured_in_again » Sat Nov 28, 2020 2:54 am

Found my discovery coin while updating my lists on this long weekend.... No photos were ever submitted here, so here's a few showing the clashing. Can't seem to get a decent money shot of the T, but the other photos at least give an overall idea of the clashing on the coin. Will have to did a little deeper to find LVA photo, but I am sure i still have it.

It would be nice to get your VAM-3FP DC together with the VAM-3GL DC to see if it is the same.

Oh, and thanks for the photos.
That was a nice DC pick. One of the hardest clashed 21-Ps.

Nice VAM. I'm still looking for one of those.
When in doubt... don't.

@DHalladay

Dennis,
Don’t you think that the 3FP looks a lot like the 3GL?

Lee:

There aren't enough photos in this thread for me to be able to make an accurate comparison.

I have the 3GL1 Discovery Coin (pre-clash) and I also have a 3GL2, but my 3GL2 is pretty LDS so there is no trace of letter transfer that I can see, and there's certainly no sign of the thing under God that looks pretty clear on the coin in this thread.

My 3GL2 has a significant crack through the E in ONE:

The start of that crack is also on my 3GL1:

There are also a couple of great clashes on the 3GL2 at the left wreath:

81058675clashWREATH.jpg
81058675clashWREATH.jpg (309.59 KiB) Viewed 2812 times

I would expect that if 3GL and 3FP are the same coin, then the crack would seal the confirmation.

I agree that the clashes appear similar between a 3GL2 and this 3FP discovery coin.

@lured_in_again It would be helpful to know if you see any sign of a break going from the wreath to the E in ONE on your 3FP as is shown on Dennis's coin?

I have a non-clashed that has the crack. I am still looking got the DC coin. All total I have 5-but have only found 2 of them so far.
I wish the 3FP had been published when it was discovered, instead of years later.
If LVA listed it for a cllashed "t" and the 3GL @ for a clashed "n" there might be another stage with another listing.

Let's put my 3GL1 Discovery Coin together with your 3FP Discovery Coin and see if they're the same. If they are then we can send 'em to LVA. I'm happy to do that if you like.

I don't have the VAM 3FP DC. I have the 3GL2 DC. I will be happy to send it to you if you can get your hands on the VAM 3FP DC.

Aha. I had to check who started the thread and who was commenting. Seems like lured_in_again has the 3FP.

I am the guilty party for not posting pics of the 3FP discovery. Didn't have a photo set-up working at the time and stashed it in the bank before getting photos done. I still have it in hand, will look to compare it with the other posted VAM.

There is no guilt here. It’s just great that you now posted photos.
It will be great to show that they are different or the same. One way or the other we will have better information for the pages.
Thank you.

Just looked at my 3FP - it has the same scratch going from the leaf to the E. Again, sorry I was unable to post photos when it was 1st listed..... back in 2011 I believe....

Excellent!
Looks pretty obvious to me that they're the same coin.

Do you still have LVA's letter for the 3FP discovery? If so, we can send your discovery coin with my 3GL1 discovery and we can get mine killed, because yours was discovered first.

Pretty sure I have the letter in my files.... P.M. me your address and I'll forward a copy of it and the coin your way if you'd like to send them in.

Jon sent me his 3FP discovery coin. It is a match with 3GL1-3GL2.
I shipped all 3 coins to LVA last night.
