1889cc vam 7 counterfeit
Just went through a collection and found an identical to the one posted on vamworld. Clearly an 1889 tripled clashed obverse with 84cx reverse. Same raised bumps on obverse, same machined in reverse, same denticles, same flaw at u of united, machine doubling on reverse, flaw at last a of america. What happened to the one that was reported??

It's die struck. I've seen a few of these now

My impression when I first saw one of these was that it was a sandwich coin, but if there are more, I guess it's a die struck fake.

Fake, using the parents Brian mentioned. I thought this was a sandwich job when I first saw it too, but I've now seen multiples and the lumps are in the same spots.

The easy determinant is the edge: wrong denticles. Correction - "wrong reeds"

At first i thought it was a simple sandwich job, machine out the reverse of a 1889p(that’s what caused the lumps), then machine off the obverse of an 1884cc, then sandwich them together. I never imagined that they made dies from their original frankenstein coin.
The lumps in the field were what caught the 1992p 1c with the reverse of 1993. They dis such a great job os machining out reverses that they made it look like a collar clash when they put them together. However, the machining process caused the zinc to hear up and disturb the surface.

@RogerB I gotta ask because it's come up a few times and left me scratching my head. When you refer to 'denticles', what element are you referencing - the fluting on the edge or the interior rim teeth?

I owned the original "DC". It was sent to Leroy to confirm it was fake.
It was assigned Vam7 instead. It was sold to a fellow VW member
who has the option of revealing himself. Or not.
