1878-S Attribution Help Needed
This one has me stumped, slanted date, overpolished lower hair, unbroken star and unbroken R, seems to have doubled left stars...

Thanx for the help. The coin recently sold for lots of money on eBay, I bid on it without figuring out what it was.

Surprised the VAM Page doesn't have any full coin pictures. Then again Im not. Some are willing to share and help and others want to hold the secretes. I spent years populating the 78S pages. I barely come on here once or twice a week, if that. tiny

I was napping on New Year’s Day
; 1i is still a hole; as for photos, it’s a tough job to keep pages up to date. With help from others I was able to get the 78-S V71 and V63 pages updated. On my to-do list for 2020 is to put together a 78-P B2 reverse set attribution guide; nothing like a good reference guide. The 78-s set is a tough one too; I’ve worn out 2 copies of the attribution guide LVA published.

I’ll try to get some photos posted soon after the coin arrives, hopefully somebody will find time to place the photos with the others.

Re: 1878-S Attribution Help Needed
The 1878-S VAM-1i is listed in the “4th Star Broken, r in Trust Unbroken” category, could this VAM possibly be moved to “4th Star Unbroken, r in Trust Unbroken”category?
Has anybody classified the 1878-S VAMs by degree of slant in the date? Which 1878-S VAMs have the greatest slant?
It is rather difficult to identify the 1878-S short nocks, thinking it might be helpful if there were lists of slanted dates, lists of polished hairs, lists of mm locations, and such. Perhaps somebody did some work on this and hasn't posted findings.
Thanx

Re: 1878-S Attribution Help Needed
Managed a high bid on another 1878s VAM-1i today, there wasn't a lot of interest in the coin. Only one person in the USA put a serious bid on the coin. Odd that it would be so scarce and yet find no real demand.
Re: 1878-S Attribution Help Needed
Nice pickup; scarce coin yes, but low grade; to be honest, there aren’t many folks trying to assemble a complete 78-s set; probably only 1/2 dozen or so serious collectors at present, so lack of interest is not surprising.

Re: 1878-S Attribution Help Needed
The seller offers to ship to Canada but there is a repeated gltch in the system where after I win the bidding, I am unable to check out due to my Canadian address. The seller is never willing to contact eBay and fix the issue, and has cancelled my winning bids in the past. So he can cancel my $255 winning bid and sell the coin to the next highest bidder for $38. I'm done with purchasing coins from mbarrcoins in Maryland.

The top photos with the white background are the sellers photos, the photos below with the black background are ones I took. The lower photos can be used for the 1878-S VAM 1i page. If you don't want photos I took for your elite club, then sorry.
