Check out this sweet bit of sexy I picked up yesterday. Not typically a LT buyer but being both a Half-Dollar + being an obv planed leaving a CC rev untouched!! I just had to have it. My coolness Spidy Sense was tingling. Anywho, was wondering if one of you guys has a working knowledge of CC halfs and can help lock down the date by MM size, location, spacing etc?.. Can we disprove 1870?? 🤪

Thanks!

Leaning towards 75-CC WB-102 or 76-CC WB-102. They shared a reverse die. On the shield, is there a little lump at the top of the second recessed area from the left?

Medium CC with Tail Hub 1 - open bud with the mintmark set that high leaves only two possible years, 1875 and 76. The variety that JB mentioned has this mintmark size and placement.

i can't do any better than what JR and JB have done, except to see if there can be abt de markers such as die cracks or the like pointing it out to be a later die state.

and NO FREAKING WAY if we are able to lock the date down without a shadow of a doubt! You guys are awesome! Non-variety guys, whatever their series pleasure, are missing out on such a cool aspect of numismatics!

Threads like this are the reason why the folks who've been VAMming for a decade plus never muddy the waters when the perennial "what ever shall we do when LVA can no longer carry the torch" conversation comes up. We'll do just fine.
