Congrats.

I will likely be selling my F12 Vam-56 in the future.

That is one heck of a good price for the V56!! Flatty, (or should I use Flatso, you pick!!)sorry about your lack of a V60. Guess you also will not need my spare V72 LN.

Flatso is slowing down on his coin acquisitions, trying to pay off the mortgage on the swamp I bought.

Sorry to be late with a reply to all the great posts on the VAM-56. Thought you all may like the back story on this item.

Until 2016, I knew nothing about VAMs. I have been a collector since childhood (about 45 years or so.) But, I just like round shiny things for the most part. I went to an estate sale in 2015 with some other folks and they had a fishbowl full of Morgans. I picked out a few that were AU'ish but saw this one and recognized that it was a reverse of '78 and got it as well. I think I paid $18 each at the time. When I got home, I snapped a picture of each coin and posted on my usual forum. One of the VAM experts on there suggested that this may be a VAM-56 and could be considered uncommon. I said "cool" and put it away for a couple of years.

My sister's father-in-law passed away in 2019 and, being the family coin nerd, they asked me to look over his collection. Almost everything was very pedestrian with the exception of what purported to be an 1893-S Morgan. I was shocked that coin could be in the midst of the other stuff and doubted its authenticity. SO, I asked the members of my local coin club to confirm it, which they did. I sent that coin to PCGS in late 2019 for grading in anticipation of selling (sold to a local dealer.)

I figured that I may as well send an 1892-S that belonged to me, along with this 1879-S as long as I was submitting. I asked PCGS to confirm VAM-56 attribution which they did. I decided to take the advice of my club members and send this coin in to GC for auction. I certainly never expected that it would bring the price it did. The club members also suggested that I put the word out here sometime during the auction - which I did.

I have never been one to study Morgan dollars in a lot of detail until now, but this whole experience has put the desire to attribute my other Morgans / Peace dollars. So far, there is nothing extraordinary in my collection but I'm keeping my eyes peeled from now on!

Thank you all for the great reception and I hope to be back with another exciting find someday.
