1887-p Morgan VAM-11 Question

Post by jgrinz » Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:34 pm

I cannot see what part of the 7 this is supposed to be in the denticles …
Can I be enlightened :)
If it was a single arc I can see possibly the top left of the serif
but it has a following arc below it also ,...

Far too late in the progression to see the MPD. It's mush by the time the obverse would qualify as MDS

First picture clearly shows it directly below the 7
Just curious what part of the 7 it is supposed to be …

You can see a 'something' but 'clearly' is a stretch

It's supposed to be the center of the curve from the top in one diastema* and the upper point in the next one to the right. There's a picture on the 87 VAM 11 page. Lots of MPDs in 1887, and they're all available in EDS (some PL), too.

* diastema = the gap between two teeth. As "dentil" and "denticle" both refer to tooth-like structures or ornamentation, use of the word diastema seems to fit and be more convenient than repeatedly saying "gap between denticles"

I guess I am not making myself clear (believe me nothing new )
I am pretty sure I see what is supposed to be the 7 but it doesn't look like anything
like a part of a 7 - This is the denticle gap directly below the seven.
It just looked odd … sorry if I disturbed …

Thanks @messydesk as I did not know what that gap was called

Yeah, it sounds far more professional than 'snaggle tooth gap'. Ain't mad at ya, just saying the LDS naturally obscures clarity
