Impressive, WTG!
Re: Back from LEROY - 6 for 8
It looks like the displaced field break shown on the 21-D VAM 1AA3 is already visible on the 21-D VAM 1AA2. An EDS of the third left star of VAM 1AA is also shown, complete with the outline of the "new" displaced field break. Do we know that VAMs 1AA2 and 1AA3 are two tangibly discrete die stages (by which I mean the two die breaks, which are continuous in nature, can be easily separated temporally), and if so, which came first?

Vam 1AA3 is a LDS Die break progression that came after Vam 1AA2 and is easily separated temporally.messydesk wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 5:41 pmIt looks like the displaced field break shown on the 21-D VAM 1AA3 is already visible on the 21-D VAM 1AA2. LVA did not provide plates for all die breaks with explanation "listed all breaks in description but generally
only took one photo per obv or rev for identification of die. Some coins had multiple breaks on one side
such as 1921 D. "
Very long displaced field breaks at 1 - 7 left stars. Rim to rim displaced field break at "E". Very slight
displaced field break below date. Displaced field break at 5 - 6 right stars.
Reverse displaced field break at TATE in STATES.
Supplemental photos are needed to clarify the Vam 1AA3 LDS new breaks. Something else to work on.
BTW, the obverse die break at third left star on my specimen stands at greater height than the star device.

Re: Back from LEROY - 6 for 8
I guess what I was wondering is if you have a VAM 1AA2 that shows the specified break on the star without the break specified for VAM 1AA3. Having photos of the two available that show a clear difference would avoid a lot of confusion that these types of listings sometimes cause. I'm not concerned with other minor peripheral cracks, as those grow all the time and had never been documented in a specification for a VAM.

Re: Back from LEROY - 6 for 8
JB - Both 1921 D Vam 1AA2 and Vam 1AA3 have the die break that enlarges the third left star although my
specimen 1AA3 shows the break standing taller than the star. The most obvious distinction is the very long
continuous Displaced Field Break towards the rim from 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 Left Stars plus adjacent rim to rim
displaced field at "E".
Check with JR because this specimen is about to cross his desk along with others!

Re: Back from LEROY - 6 for 8
I was referring to the break on the left side of the 3rd star. From the pictures, this is the only displaced field I see. It is clearly reflecting the light in a different direction from the fields surrounding it. The others simply look like die cracks. Given a coin in AU, can I tell VAM 1AA2 from 1AA3 from that break alone? If field displacement isn't visible in the pictures, it likely won't be on an AU coin, either.RogerRock wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2019 7:28 pmJB - Both 1921 D Vam 1AA2 and Vam 1AA3 have the die break that enlarges the third left star although my

Re: Back from LEROY - 6 for 8
Field Displacement is best viewed in hand tilted under a light and is difficult to capture in a photo.
Toning , die polish, and circulation diminish field displacement identification.
Displaced fields exhibit a range of different patinas. The much brighter displaced field encircled by
die cracks to the left of the third star is not the only displaced field. In fact, the large (less obvious)
displaced field is towards the rim at all 7 left stars. The black arrow in plate photo is marking the leading
boundary edge of the (LARGE) displaced field , not just the small brighter one! PUP,s would show on
most white AU/BU 1921 D Vam 1AA3 specimen.
Check out much better details on slight displaced field break ME in plate of 1921 P Vam 3DA3
