86 o quandry
86 o quandry
I recently bought an 86 o Morgan, AU 58 details, described as a VAM 1A. Seeing no 1A in VW "Vams by Date", I'm assuming its a 1A1 or 1A2. Am I on the right trail? If someone will post pics here, send me your email address and I will return it with pics. Yes, I'm still having trouble posting photos. My email is jwmcarthur_8@hotmail.com . Thanks for your help.
Re: 86 o quandry
Both the 1A1 and 1A2 are "all there and VERY obvious" complete E coins. It doesn't even take a loupe in many grades.
I believe that 1A was the original (old) name for the variety; it was later split into 1A1 and 1A2.
My hunch is you bought a coin that was falsely described/attributed.

When in doubt... don't.
Re: 86 o quandry
You can send them to me. The clashes of the cap vee by the right wreath determine VAM 1A1 or 1A2. I assume the E is clear, as it should be.
