Pics of fakes?

Post by VamHelsing » Wed Jul 11, 2018 2:33 pm

Do we have any place that shows pics of fake coins? This might be helpful for new people.
I can contribute a 1895-P.....

I think that is a great idea, and would be a good training tool for all.

The counterfeiters are getting better; and for many of us that is bad news.
Not all are easy to spot as the sand cast.

I supplied tha images for the 1889-CC.

One thing I have notice about counterfeits; the majority of the time the date gives it away.
I also thing more specific detail would help some of us; and definity newcomers.

Yes the date gives many of the fakes away. Another frequent tell is due to die shrinkage in the production of a transfer die the strike will be off center. What gives me nightmares is anything can be scanned and milled.

Changing times. Technology always getting better. Fake's getting better than the original. Not good. Had more than my fare share of fake MORGAN'S. We do need to hit down on these fake's really hard. Help all with no previous experience of spotting a fake coin. We're all on this site for the Authentic MORGAN DOLLAR. Love this coin.
