Post by lewisr2 » Tue Mar 12, 2019 2:28 am

Just got back a 78P VAM-44A from ANACS
It is graded AU58, but darn -- it is details cleaned.
What is the going price for an AU58 details 44A?

No it isn't harshly cleaned -- at least I don't think so.
The face does have a short scrape, not noticeable in the photo, but easily seen when viewing.

I want to make three comments based upon the nearly 50,000 VAM sales results I have collected:

1. There seems to be no value difference between VAM 44 and 44A, although 44As are sold as 44As much less often than 44s are.
2. In the last 5 years prices have come way down for all VAM 44s (problems or not) in all circulated grades.
3. There is no hard and fast way to set a value for a cleaned (or other problem) coin; each one is unique and value varies depending upon severity of the problem.

Here are prices I have for problem AU58 and AU55 coins. Please note how prices have dropped over time:

1878 7/8TF 44 58 alt. ANACS Sep-10 H $2,185
1878 7/8TF 44 58 cln. NGC Jul-13 H $1,410
1878 7/8TF 44 58 cln. PCGS Dec-13 H $1,116

1878 7/8TF 44 55 det. ANACS Aug-11 SB $2,070
1878 7/8TF 44 55 cln. NGC Feb-13 E $1,999
1878 7/8TF 44 55 det. ANACS Oct-15 PP $995

Yours is a nice looking and apparently lightly impaired coin, so I think it would be on the high end of prices.

When in doubt... don't.
