My best Bird Find yet! (8TF) VAM 14.8 -Rarity?

Hey guys, check out my best 8TF find yet!.. A 14.8 in NGC 62PL... I know it's not one of the mega money uber-rare ones but it's just below that level I believe, right? I saw it and she came at such a good time as my Explorer with 235k miles decided to finally give up the ghost during my move, ugh, so I was just planning on quick-flipping her to help with the down payment (car payments again, ugh)

Sellers pics made it look like it might not even cross as PL at PCGS but I just got her in and I can tell you that she is full DMPL, or very very very close to it. Absolutely no cartwheels and deep, flashy mirrors with just a lack of intense frosty device cameo.

So to all my 8TF guys out there, is the 14.8 page correct ie. is this a true mega rarity? If so, why isn't it one of the 4 to 5 figure 8TF? And if it was yours, being in my situation, would you quick flip as-is or is there a big enough difference to make it worth a crack and try at PCGS for DMPL or at least cross at same? I'm just not all too knowledgable with the intricacies of the various 8TF's. Thanks for the advise in advance. Finding a nice 8TF is such a thrill, can't even imagine the feeling of picking one of the mega biggies! Wish I could keep this one but it's not in the cards right now

Thanks guys! I thought I posted this in the BST though simply due to the part where I'm asking advice on what I should do with it even though that's only a portion of my reason for posting. If you want I can copy / paste to BST and have JB kill this one.

If you guys are fine with it here, I'd like to know more about the 14.8 in terms of where it stands in the pantheon of the rare 8tf, why its not a big money one if it is truly an ultra-rarity and what I should do with it. From what I understand, even if it will only cross at same, it will, it would still bring more money.. I'm guessing that's mostly due to the PCGS registry?

Anywho, I have CarMax shipping me a 2013 Dodge Challenger from another lot to the one near me. Single driver with only 11k miles on it! So I might need the down payment within a few days if I like this one which means I probably have more time now to decide what to do with this girl if I dont find a new home for her rather quickly

For money, IMHO, PCGS is still the correct plastic. V14.8 is rare, not ultra- just rare(I say 'just', that's funny ).

It's pretty darn scarce, but not in the same league as the 14.12, 14.13, 14.17, 14.19, and 14.20. Tougher than VAM 9 or 14.5 in terms of absolute population. If you start talking about availability in MS62, however, it's more available. I don't think 14.5 even comes uncirculated.

I'll leave the thread here if people want to discuss rarity, as that's an important thing for people to learn about on the general discussion board.

According to my sales database, 14.8 (in all grades combined) comes up slightly less often than 14.5. But the 14.5 never comes up in Mint State. When the 14.8 comes up, it's about 50-50 it will be M.S., and about 80% of M.S. coins are PL/DMPL.

Found some better ones, the rarest one was a raw low grade 14.19 on coin shop in Omaha show case, paid 26.00.
Got a ms 64 pcgs unattributed 14.7, others saw it but would not step up buy.

Did not need it so sold it.

Got a ngc 1878 8tf ms 61 vam 9 in Omaha shop also, 180.00 only crossed to pcgs au 58.

Thanks for all the info and advice guys. After talking it over with a couple of friends, I think I'm gonna try a crack and PC sub as I truly belive it can make DMPL and just live with slightly higher car payments but use the proceeds when I finally do sell to pay down the car. I've made lesser coins into PC DMPL holders just not 100% sure on how PC graders view PL vs DMPL 8TF's.. Is it super hard to get DMPL on 8TF due to prejudice / value jump even if the fields are "all there" for DMPL? (One thing that does have me iffy is the lack of frosty cameo but as I've been told, frosty cameo is a bit wanting with PL/DMPL 8TF. The fields truly are DMPL glass with deeper than PL mirrors though)

Also, do you guys think it would be better to just slide it in or have it AOH too? Could I get a fairer judgment on DMPL if attribution is (possibly) unkown by the grader vs will they be harder on the designation being one of the "better" premium 8TF?

Mirrors aren't deep enough to get DMPL status. Lack of frost contrast doesn't help matters either. Still, a nice coin. I would have given it more than a 58 personally, but I'm picky.

No. Not the one I'm currently looking at. At CarMax, you can find one you like at another CarMax and have it shipped to your Carmax. I'm pre-qualified (thank you good FICO score!) and it just came in so I'm going to look at it today and will drive off with it if I like her. I'm not much of a motorhead so for the price difference the Hemi isn't a "must have" for me. 305hp with the v6 is enough. Plus, I know I'll get too many tickets with the Hemi lol... The original owner put 11k on this one in its first year, it was a fleet "business" vehicle and a lien was placed against it in 2014 with no miles put on it until 300 this year. Reading between the lines, it looks like the business took out a loan using assets as collateral and they defaulted earlier this year so the assets, including this car, were sold off by the lender. History is solid, no flood or fire etc. Just sitting for a couple years with a lien against it. Fully inspected by CarMax and brand new tires (due to sitting and sidewalls cracking, I'm guessing) Plus, I am getting the 5yr/150k warranty nomatter which car I get..
