1900 VAM 11 LDS?

Post by DurhamJnKY » Sun May 09, 2021 4:55 pm

Picked this one up off the Bay recently. It has all of the hallmarks of a VAM 11, but it also has several that aren't noted or visible on the coin shown on here.

The reverse has a nice chip and scratch inside the O in OF.

On the obverse it looks like the inside of the bottom of the 9 is doubled, there's heavy scratches/gouges in the field at the wheat below RI, and a couple of diagonal scratches at the jaw\throat.

So, would these differences make this a late die state?

Hard to tell from your full photos, could you show photos of lower Eagle wings and tailfeather area, also olive branches and arrows. Might be extra PUPs that weren't listed in the main description for the listing. But does not look to be an 11..... edited to read "does not"

I’m just not seeing anough doubling to call this a vam 11, or v24. Also, pictures aren’t sharp enough for me on this idiot phone.

Bingo! Never looked at that one. One of these days I'll get good at this.

It is right between 16 and 16A. It's reverse has the tiny scratch up from the denticles to the D in DOLLAR from the 16. It also has the faint crack from the D in UNITED through the wing shown on the 16A. On the picture of the 16A reverse, it looks like a repair had been attempted on the marks inside of the O in OF. They filled most of the chip. Mine doesn't have any of the neck pitting.

So, I guess that would make it a VAM 16 LDS?!?

Thanks so much for your help.

Jonnie

The pitting is the thing that makes a piece the unofficial VAM 16A. No pitting at the eagle's neck and you have a VAM 16
often the crusher of hopes and dreams
