1888-P VNA Variety

Post by merritte » Fri Apr 30, 2021 3:45 pm

I found what appears to be an 1888-P VNA "Vam Not Assigned" variety. Please check it out and share your thoughts.
I read that; VAMworld.com encourages users to post photos and descriptions of VNA varieties.
Thanks, Tim

Yes, very close; most but not all characteristics visible on actual coin, perhaps an earlier state.

I'd lean to agreeing with VAM 10 - cleaned and worn coins tend to lose some of the minor attributes

Start with stuff like date position. You have a normal, slanted date, which is VAM 10. If there is no doubling or listable clashing, your search ends there. There are probably several die pairs for VAM 10, but since there hasn't been a thorough study of 1888, we really don't know how many.
