1923-S Help Needed Update Possibly 1E1 or 1E2
Update: May be a 1E1 or 1E2. Does anyone have a 1E1 or 1E2 to compare?
Been away for a while... periodically, I pick up something that looks interesting and this is one of those coins. Not sure if it's already listed, or if it is even worth sending to LVA.
Has what I saw as a double shoulder spike, with one against the neck and the other further out. The one further out appears to be a double spike under magnification.. There are heavy file lines on the obverse through the R and into the hair bun. That little bump at the top of the bun (that is in the hub) is almost polished away. Some of the lines go into the hair. There is a heavy line going through the T as well. Doesn't appear to be 1CK, 1U or 1AC. I don't have the last 2 or 3 updates, so I am going by what's on the 23S Peace Dollar pages.
Any thoughts? Is this worth sending into LVA. @davidkclose, @colwillys, do you recognize this?
: Thanks!
Ray

Had you checked out listings for 1E1 and 1E2 - wide clash (1E1)and diagonal lines by RT (1E2) Also possible thin die break listed on 1E2?

Thanks! 1E1 looks like it might be a match for the spikes. Unfortunately, the 1E2 page doesn’t have pics of the file lines. My coin does not have the die break on reverse on the 1E2 page. I wonder if anyone has pics?lured_in_again wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 5:18 pmHad you checked out listings for 1E1 and 1E2 - wide clash (1E1)and diagonal lines by RT (1E2) Also possible thin die break listed on 1E2?

If this is 1E2 (or 1), then we can add these pictures to the pages. Hopefully someone has an example of each to confirm.

It does not have the reverse break, but E1 doesn’t have the obverse file lines. Maybe it needs to go to LVA to revise E1 to include the scratches? That further out spike is also doubled...

OK, there is a crack, but it is apparently a very early state... very thin line, but it's there.
It ould seem that the Obverse file lines would have been present in the 1E. I may send this in just for the revision/clean up of 1E.I swear, someday I will learn how to grade Peace Dollars!

As I posted on another thread, the VAM 1E reverse was paired with 2 obverse dies. This is the 2nd obverse.

Can someone please add the above pictures to the 23S VAM1E2 page? We have no pictures of the clash or the obverse file lines on the page and I am unable to do it. Thanks.
