Abbot Coin Counter Model 2X

Post by PacificWR » Thu Oct 29, 2020 1:23 am

Stopped by the local coin gallery today and picked-up this really cool Abbot Coin Counter. Everything works on it, I just need to clean it up. It will count coins from a penny to a half dollar. Checkout the photos below.

Side note.
They also made a gold coin counter, but it was not widely used due to abrasion.

According to a small-town bank VP I interviewed long, long ago, old-time bank tellers preferred the hand cranked model to ones with motors. This allowed them to stop counting as soon as a coin stuck, and they could conveniently scan the coins for counterfeits and slugs. Electric models had a foot switch accessory -- at least that's what my mouse chewed notes say.

Think she was made around 1917. It could be as early as the late 1890's.
