Just wondering.
Just wondering.
I still cannot take detail images yet, but I did buy a Canon T6.
Now I just got to figure now to use it.
Any way, I was going thought some of my inventory and thought everyone might be interested in.
It's an 1885-P that I was going to send to Nate went he was studying 1885, but never did.
So I came across it again and thought someone might be interested in seeing it.
Just obverse and reverse.
Enjoy,
All comments and guidance is appreciated,
Larry

Re: Just wondering.
There's a ton of good info on coin photography on the CCF site. You can narrow it down to Canon specific in the search box.
Here's one on the T6 and the 18-35 kit lens https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/top ... erms=canon

Re: Just wondering.
Nice. Looks like it was worked over a little bit but is that heavy patch at IGWT die file lines or PMD? Cant quite tell for sure from the pic.

Used a happy rag , I need it to shine .
Re: Just wondering.
I would agree with that 100%, but this one needs examine buy someone else, but not me.
The polish marks under a 30x bi-microscope does not indicate PMD.
If I could take detail images right now you would see what I mean.
This is an open invitation for examination; who does 1885-P's.

I may not be the best, but I do not know anyone better.

Mitch would be your guy on any 85P help Chief.
Is it rotated?

Re: Just wondering.
Do what Dave told you to do.
I did and it was one of the smartest things I've ever done.
I had a bag full of old Pentax film camera stuff and wanted to move out of the dark ages.
My system is K-x with bellows, copy lenses and a drill press stand.
It works perfectly.
I've never needed to up grade, nor were the suggested pieces superfluous.
Dyno scopes may be fine but I could never get past the problem if horrible software.

I actually put together something very similar to this.https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/top ... rms=system but I'm using an old (used) Canon t1000 body and an old KodakKurt28 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 9:47 amDo what Dave told you to do.

70mm enlarging lens. I think I have about $300 invested with the camera body, Canon FD bellows, B&L microscope
stand and various adapters and aluminum flat stock. It was fun to build and even more fun to photograph coins..
There are several members that really know their stuff most notably Ray (rmpsrpms) and SSuperDDave.

Re: Just wondering.
Both sides have been lightly polished, no doubt on that, probably with a sterling cloth. The type that's in grandmas sterling flatware box. But the lines around IGWT do look like they can possibly be a noice die polishing patch similar to, say, the 21s v29a..ChiefRet. wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:19 pmI would agree with that 100%, but this one needs examine buy someone else, but not me.

Re: Just wondering.
Chris this is a funny one.
I sent it to Mitch to examine, but before I did I told it out of the holder and weight it.
I know why did I not do that sooner, it was about 3 grams under weight.
The obverse was an obvious counterfeit, but the was not so much the story with the reverse.
I would say ask Mitch for his professional opinion.
I am currently sent him a few coins for his views.
one being the 1880-O VAM-10, a comparison to VAM-12 , but not the same.
Also, three other un-identify 1880-O's by me.
I have so many un-identifies I start selling them off, because I did not want to hear the shit on the site.
I will not lower myself to that, if you have something to say to me say it.
Don't pussyfoot about, (not you) some have very little to do with the advance the hobby; than to give a negative opinion.
Nate is the one that got me started at this; and now with the new site I just haven't had the focus.
I am currently reading (Mine to Mint) to get my interest back; the only thing is I have had a back log of coins to send to
Leroy and they end up getting pushed in the safety and forgot until future times.
Take care , see sharp, and be safe,
Larry

Re: Just wondering.
No way! I dont know why I didnt spot it the first go but as I just clicked on the thread and saw the images again my first thought was counterfeit. That bird just looks off. Then I saw it's an old thread and I replied to it as if genuine and got a little flush then read your new post and now I feel a little better lol. Not sure why my eyes didn't pick up on it at first, maybe I was too intrested in the lines around IGWT

Re: Just wondering.
SPEAKING OF NATE. HE CAME UP IN CONVERSATION AGAIN THIS PAST WEEK. I HAVE PLENTY OF MEMORIES of him. going through old paperwork and email, finding trades we did , and conversations in text messages. he had such a kind, possible outlook. i'm sure many of us miss our times with him.
Re: Just wondering.
