Hi all!
First time post here and a VAM collector...
I found an 1885 O with very easily noticable doubling on the "ONE" on the reverse (also slight doubling on the star to the left). If you look across the bottom of the "ONE" you can easily see the doubling, especially under the "O" and "N"
I can't seem to find a VAM that matches this, anyone ever seen one of these?

Looks like it could be machine doubling or even a function of the toning, but not a doubled die.
Welcome to the madness.

I'm not familiar with that series, but that is a beautiful coin and great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

I agree, it looks like it was repunched on the die not doubled...when i look at it on an angle with my loupe i can see the raised metal...its not a function of the toning, im usually skeptical of that too when i see a toned coin that looks doubled.impairedsquirrel wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 1:56 pmLooks like it could be machine doubling or even a function of the toning, but not a doubled die.
Welcome to the madness.
So maybe "repunched ONE"

Re: 1885 O new VAM? doubled "ONE"
It's machine doubling, not a doubled die. The secondary letter parts are smashed and deformed. Take a look at the "Do You Think You Have a Doubled Die?" thread that's pinned at the top of the discussion forum.
