Leroy Van Allen - Doing well

Post by alefzero » Sat Mar 28, 2020 1:21 am

Has anyone been in contact with LVA? He and his wife are certainly in the vulnerable class in this pandemic. WOuld be nice to take a pulse and make sure he is okay. He might also just appreciate the contact.

Well, if we all digitally bombard him he might come out of his spider hole for one of us? 🤔

I would just let JohnR take care of trying to reach him for now. His hands are always full this time of year without having to worry about this whole virus thing. It looks like there is only one case in his county right now, so I will assume he and Marilyn are fine in that respect. When he is ready to read and respond to e-mails, someone will hear from him.

I've got some interesting pieces to show him that I think he'd actually enjoy. Ohio is under a version of 'stay home' orders now, so we probably all have to wait

Can you give him a short call to make sure they are okay and let him know the community has them both in mind and send all the best wishes? If that is a comfortable thing to do of course.

Don't you mean "the cartwheel will start to turn soon," ?

I don't appear to have a current phone number for him. Maybe @twohawks does? Russ, can you call him and see how he's doing?

I just talked to leroy. He just finished the 1878s guide but since he is now confined due to the virus. He has been working on the peace dollar and morgan wonders. He still takes care of Marilyn, who use a walker to do anything, he walks the dog, makes dinner, and everything else. He is now 86, and marilyn is 87. He surely has quite a bit on his plate but he does not complain. He still soldiers on. It was nice to talk with him, i think he appreciated the break from the routine, although he is very busy. His attitude is good, and, although he knows about the virus, he doesn’t seem worried or unduly stressed by it. They are very lock down and it’s pretty tightly controlled who can get in or out.
Anyway, i lwt him know that many were concerned about him, and i told him that i would call and check up on him(them) for all of us.

Thanks for the update. It's a relief to know they are still hanging in there.
When in doubt... don't.

I was interrupted while writing. He finished the 1878s guide, but because he is confined he has had a hard time getting it printed.

Good to hear they are both doing well. Copy shops are probably closed, anyway, so even if he could and wanted to get out, he wouldn't be able to get the guide copied. Thanks for contacting him for all of us.

(I took the liberty of adding to the subject. All too often, when the subject of a post is just a name, there's bad news inside, and I wanted to shake that feeling.)
