Having fun with the 21's.

Post by Kurt28 » Fri Mar 27, 2020 9:47 pm

A short time ago I purchased a small quantity of my dealer's remaining Morgans just for the silver content. They were almost all 1921's.
So I started sifting, and here are a few of my finds.

And a 1921-D (presumably a VAM-1) whose dies would later become the VAM-1B1, the Capped R.

A BIG advantage to 1921s is they are cheap numismatic fun!
Nice pixs, BTW.
When in doubt... don't.

Is that a giant feed finger gouge on the 21-D?

Yes.
That of course begs the next question.
Is it a new VAM, having a finger feed groove but no capped "R?"
I can appreciate the "die poop" argument, but think that adherence to that philosophy should also require an advocacy for the removal of many Scarface VAMS and uncountable numbers of Peace VAMs.

1921 D's are a treasure chest full of major die breaks yet to be discovered! My quest for terminal die states
have been most rewarding on this Denver mint silver dollar. Good to see your pics of recent finds in random
silver melt valued 21's. Having FUN is what really matters. ;)
