stumped by 2 scribbles (SOLVED)

Post by DHalladay » Sat Mar 21, 2020 6:02 pm

Yes, 1921-P of course. Both have D2 reverses.

Both have lots of scribbles... which may be part of the problem I'm having. There's so much there that even slightly moving the light source during photography makes 2 different coins look like 4 different coins.

I've been through the scribbles guide 4 times, once for each of the photos posted below, without success.

Coin #2 is extreme in the "lots of scribbles" regard; it looks fully prooflike to me, so if a later die state coin is currently shown in the scribbles guide, it could have a lot less detail than this PL coin has.

Any help would be much appreciated; thanks in advance. :D

Thanks for your eyes Mitch!
91 is now 6, and I think you've nailed it. The wreath scratch across from T, the doubled date, lines in the bow, and doubled stars are a dead match. The various lines in Liberty and the right wing are not there – which isn't surprising since this coin is PL and those polishing events probably hadn't happened yet. But I do see the worn-down scribbles in our attribution page photo matching the scribbles jungle photo I posted.
