Hello all my VAM Friends! Hope everyone is well and weathering the Corona storm. Hey, I'm hoping I can get a little more clarity on this 1896 P possible duplicate issue resolved. Where to start....... :?
1st, could people with a VAM 24 please check your coins and see if they in fact have the thread-like impression on OBV above the D void. If they do, would you check the REV to see if it is dbl'd and matches the V24.
On the V24 page I notice there are 2 full coins pictured, the 1st coin pictured has the thread-like impression and is clashed. The 2nd coin pictured does not have impression and is not clashed.
Here is verbage for V24:
24 III211 · C3c (Near Date, Doubled Reverse Legend) ( ? ) I-2 R-5
Obverse- Date set further left than normal.
Reverse C3c– Slightly doubled lower bottom inside of UNITED STATES OF letters towards rim. Slight doubling of tops of In God W letters.
Comments:
1. Pick-Up on obverse is U shaped threadlike impression in hair behind jawline.
2. Same Obverse die used on 1896-P VAM-35

2nd: New V35 is clashed similar to the 1st coin pictured on the V24 page, REV looks similar as well with the exception it is not doubled. (hope all this makes sense :? )
Here is the V35 Verbage:
III2 33 - C3a (Near Date, Thread Like Impression Hair) 190 I-2 R-5
Obverse III2 33 - Date set further left than normal at right edge of near. Thread like die impression that is curved in hair below Liberty head ear. Very slight doubling of ear at left inside and earlobe.

Reverse C3a -
Comments:
Same Obverse die used on 1896-P VAM-24

Mitch brought this up when I posted the Discovery and asked if anyone had a V24 to compare, but I think it went unnoticed or got lost in the thread. JR also mentioned a possible dupe in his comments from my last ANACS batch.
Hopefully this is enough info to get started. Any help on this would be great. Everyone stay well and hope to hear from you soon :D

I have a 96 P V24 with the threadlike marker. So now it is a V35 Correct? No clash marks.

Not necessarily, could you check the reverse and see if it matches the V24 page, " Reverse C3c– Slightly doubled lower bottom inside of UNITED STATES OF letters towards rim. Slight doubling of tops of In God W letters." If there is no doubling, then it would be a V35....hope that made sense. :D
Thanks for responding!
