Help on taking a decent picture.

Post by Tekkie1 » Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:27 am

Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone would share any tips on taking a decent photo of a PL Morgan.
No matter what way I've tried, the pic will be nothing and I mean nothing like having the coin in hand.
And to be honest, its getting to be a bit, actually very frustrating to say the least.
If anyone could help in any way, I would really appreciate it. :) :)

Thanks in advance.

Not that easy on a morgan PL.
On a proof coin no problem for the camera shot.
PL are a SOB in my book for the photo to look PL from a morgan$.
Just me and the many attempts for the that ideal PL shot.
All negative. :?

Cool man, thanks for your reply.
I was hoping I wasn't the only one with this issue.

They're not that difficult to photograph. What camera, lens, and lights are you using? Remember that you have two eyes when viewing a PL coin, while the camera has only one. Look at the coin with one eye closed to better visualize how to light it.

Natural light is hit-or-miss for good coin photos, mostly miss if you have uncirculated coins. Pull the shades or wait until dark and get out a couple lamps.

Okay, after many many tries, this the best I could do with this 1921-P.
AUish condition.

Nice pics

PL are tough to shoot anyway you look at it.
I still use my phone on full manual to get my full pictures
When you learn it, it works good with NO extra investment.
I use 2 OTT lights for lighting ( Oldies but goodies )
