VSS vs Ebay's Policy

Post by collectinsince65 » Fri Feb 21, 2020 9:11 pm

Hey All
Received this error today while attempting to upload one of JB's VSS attributed pieces
This is the message I received when I included VSS in the listing

Fom Ebay:
It looks like there's a problem with this listing.
Replica and Reproduction Coins
Replica or reproduction coins are not permitted to be listed. See our Coins Policy for more information. Items that violate our policy, including replica coins, will be removed.

{e66835-656960x}

After 20 minutes on the phone with ebay all mention of VSS was removed by ebay and my listing was approved from upload.
Any else encounter this before?
Thanks
Mike

Happens all the time without EBAY recognized 3rd parties
Have the problem all the time with multiple 3rd party graders
NGC and PCGS only … anything else unless rigorous on removing and blocking
grading / graders names etc will come up with this ….

How did you word it? Did you say something like "VSS slabbed" if so that could be what got you. Just put VSS sticker or VSS Attributed or just VSS. Most any VAM hunter that isnt completely green knows what VSS is.

Send me as many details as you can about this, including who you spoke with at ebay.

@messydesk
John
Unfortunately I did not jot down the names of the two females that I spoke to.
I did have VSS in the header listing and the phrase attributed by the highly respected Variety Slabbing Service (VSS for short) in the body of the listing.
Tried to explain that the item was not graded by a third party grader.
It was attributed by a firm that specializes in attributing coins based on an obverse die and reverse die combination.
I suggested at the end of the conversation that they allow VSS to be allowed in the future because it has nothing to due with grading a coin.

I get around it by listing it as PCGS graded VAM XXX it the title,
Add pictures of the VSS label, and then describe it including the VSS
attribution in the description area. Works for me.

Where you got into trouble was using the word slabbing. I use VSS in the title all the time. Here are two examples that are up right now: 1889 P VSS VAM 30 Doubled Ear, Left Edge of Hair Curls Below Ear Dbld Nice Coin! and 1884 O/O VAM 48A VSS High O/O Center Bar, Die Break Above Cap High Grade Coin!

Just use VSS and NO slabbing. When I have a graded coin attributed by VSS is goes like this: 1884 P ANACS MS 66 VAM ?? VSS plus description.

Haven't had a problem ever.

Bob's approach has worked for me too.
When in doubt... don't.

That's what I was getting at, assuming he had the phrase "VSS slabbed" or some variation in the title..

JGrinz-ANACS and ICG are fully accepted on eBay as well.
I agree about the "slabbing", but I think (and it sounds like he's going that way) we should be able to include "VSS attributed" or "VSS authenticated" just like folks can use "CAC approved". JB doesn't provide grade opinions, but if he can VAM it, by Gawd it must be real...

Thanks its been a while since I sold those guys there (ICG / ANACS )
At the time I did I got lot of kick backs. Glad they do them now and there should be no
reason VSS should not be able to according to their own rules.

Isn't SEGS allowed too?

And as an aside, speaking of ICG, I have not seen as much ICG plastic condensed in one place as I did the first time I went to the Dalton, GA show. Man do they love their ICG there. Like, a lot..

Use "AOH" in the title. Collectors know what it is...
"There is no E"...

Not SEGs (I don't believe). Some of their hoops are the TPG has to have a label look-up available and I believe a price guide linked(?)

Definitely NOT SEGS they have to be considered ungraded
Occasionally, at their whim, I have been made to block the MS grade on the coin

I have sold 'several', a term used to replace a dozen or more on the Bay that have had a VSS label on the slab with NEVER a problem. Most were PCGS, submitted through JB's program. A few were VSS slabs without a grade 'Of course'. Being a Buyer, it is entirely up to you on what you want to put your money on. VSS for attribution, is the same as ANACS, the later giving you a grade and a higher cost. Ford or Chevy, Samsung or Apple, Deere or Kubota. It's all a matter of choice. For me, it's 89-P 23A!(just say'n)...
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my.........Ah........Uhm........something, something, something.....

I have also sold many coins with listings labeled VSS. Sometimes graded and sometimes not. You can bank on John's attribution.
