Hub Doubling?

Post by rodmeader » Mon Feb 17, 2020 12:29 am

1880-P VAM 50A:

There's slight doubling of the letters STATES and more noticeable doubling of the letters in IGWT. Is this hub doubling or strike doubling?

I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Looks like strike doubling except for 'trust'. that appears to be double die. IMO

All MD. Notice how it "steals" metal from the devices and is flat and shelf-life. Along with the lack of other typical indicators like corner notching.

For what its worth; Since discovered ; I have been a 50A super fan- and picked it every chance.
I now have some lofty grades as well as toners - A huge obverse strike thru as well

This vam IMHO is very under appreciated- much like the 1881-0 vam 16-- GO FIGURE
