Picked this up today. Just saw what it was and didn't see any issues so I set it aside. Got home and thought "huh, well that's a pretty cool flip!"

Very cool! I wonder if Christie's is still around or in that location? I'll have to take a look next time I'm close to Park Ave in Manhatten.

Yeah, tre cool ain't it. I also dig all the previous pencil prices through the years from $14 to $119 all shadow erased. Also, the plastic is more modern so the card [& coin] have obviously transferred together more than once over the years and have stayed together. Cant be 100% sure this is the same 78s the card was written for in '87 but I'd say it's a very high likelyhood. Especially due to the "SPL" designation on the card and this obverse being on the DMPL line.

Hey, does anyone know precisely what "SPL" stands for?.. I'm thinking either "Special Proof-Like" or "Single Proof-Like" since its one-sided.

Also, for you literature guys, a question. Did Christie's have auction catalogs and if so is there a high likelyhood I'd be able to find the cat for this sale?

So, a little birdy found the Christie's catalog for the sale this was in and low and behold it's got plate pics and it is 100% the same coin! It does appear as though the coin has been dipped (correctly) to remove some light toning above the hair and on the Eagle but there are still markers to be had.

How cool. The coin in the flip and the catalog 😎

Wish the book was in better shape tho. Its horrible. The last 1/3rd of the pages are stuck together, however that happened. Lucky the plate for this coin was undamaged when I pulled this page apart tho. Whew.

Sure is JR. Thanks again. This is my first foray into this kind of thing. So cool.

In numismatics, the terms are interchangeable. but thanks for being that guy...

Here's a description from a rival service
.https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-grading/pedigrees/

And I know you won't care, even though the Merriam-Webster definition doesn't limit 'pedigree' to living things. I saw you got into a lengthy argument about this very thing on the Collector's Universe forum.
