A crack that can't be missed

Post by DHalladay » Wed Nov 06, 2019 3:16 pm

If you've never seen one of these in person, add it to your list of coin things to do.

This 1921-P PCGS MS63 example (VAM 3DO by the way) is attributed on the holder as "2/3" Cracked Plan" and is more noticeable than most, due to the obverse crack being in the prime focal area. It's also quite wide near the rim.

When in doubt... don't.

Cool! I wonder if extreme freeze-thaw cycles (liquid nitrogen/boiling water) might "finish the job" and split it into two.

If that was my coin I would most definitely try. You could probably name your price at Northern Nevada if it works

Nice! I've found a couple '21 cracked planchets but nothing near that wide or long.

Nice catch Dennis...I personally would enjoy it "as is". It's good enough.
