1900-O VAM 53 ?

Post by rogerg » Fri Oct 25, 2019 6:59 pm

Can anyone confirm this?
I have looked at all 1900-O listings and the 53 is the only one
I can find that has a similar date and mint mark.
The spur-like chip on the third star and polish lines under the
chin on mine aren't mentioned markers.

I have the opinion that it is not a 53

What reverse hub does the country have?

Mint mark is wrong for a Vam 53, I think the mm is set high. That's why I want to see the date.

I cannot find a match rogerg. If no one else steps up to help it might need to take a road trip.

I dont think this is a VAM 53, the O is too high.

Usually, I'd call these near slanted dates with a high O a VAM 23, which have multiple die pairs.

But I've not seen one with the die gouges in and below the ear like your coin has, so I agree with tmanhg, it may be worth a trip.
