Are Morgan 1921-P VAM-65 and VAM-87...
Re: Are Morgan 1921-P VAM-65 and VAM-87...
I assume you mean the D1 necklace varieties. I have seen very few D1s (maybe none) that do not have some evidence of the "necklace". Even though that marker may occur in one fashion or another on every D1, there is variation even in that feature that might be useful in distinguishing a die, in combination with other markers.
With the hundreds of 21 VAMs out there, it is most frustrating to have a coin in hand that has some fairly distinct marker (in the bow, in the wing feathers, in the wreaths, etc.) that does not appear in the VAM listing. This is especially true when scribbles have vanished. I am encouraged by the many listings that have supplemental photos illustrating additional markers.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Yes about the necklace varieties. Many D1s do not have these markers.
As far as the distinct markers and documentation goes. I think that is part of what makes it fun. I also understand that it can be frustrating. I have spent years proving theories, or disproving others. Some sharp people started documenting these features. Some more have continued their work. And now you are also adding to the group knowledge.
Keep doing the good work that you have started.

VAM 87 is my discovery and I have the Discovery Piece. If anyone has the VAM 65 discovery piece, we can ship them to John and he can do a proper comparison. Logan McKechnie discovered the 65. I sent him a message to see if he still has it and can send it to Messydesk (and I will send the 87) for comparison and hopefully an answer.

Logan sold the VAM 65 Discovery Piece to either Crae or Brent a few years ago. Hopefully, they are still around and have it.

This is excellent!! We're making progress toward a kill!
I've sent a text to Brent asking if he has the 65.

When in doubt... don't.

And I just emailed Crae.

I can't see the scribbles on my DC for the 87. It is graded MS64 by ANACS, so we at least have a good example to work with. The 87 DC does not show any beveling at OF. Any word from @fogie or Crae yet as to whether they have the VAM 65 DC?

Take a look at VAM 85 as well. It is another of my discoveries. The scribbles look very similar as well. May be another candidate for a kill. These are all very similar, but have some differences. The 85 has doubling at the bottom of AMERICA, where the 87 does not. The 85 shows some beveling over the second S in States through the O of OF, where the 65 has beveling over OF and (at least my) shows no beveling at all.

Crae doesn't have the DC.
