Today, I have a 1878-P R/79 I Haven't been able to tracked her down You will probably agree that the first thing I noticed was the G clash and I had to buy it so, I could examine her closer. I don't think there is letter transfer. also, this is a detailed coin, some knuckle head took a knife to her. All comment and guidance is appreciated.
Enjoy

Can't pinpoint it Chief. Seems to match around VAM-228.4 ??

Too bad it got polished. Probably took what little G clash it might have had.
Good luck though. :D

Chief,
I don't know much about rev of 79s, but that reverse G clash really makes me think of VAM-225A.

Hey Lee, there might be a small tick right at the last left tailfeather from the VAM-225A you mentioned.
I'm not sure as I've done wore out my vision. ;)

Thank you gentlemen for taking a look.

Sorry about that; I somehow started two post for the same coin and I can't delete it since I reply to the post with more images. If it turns out to be one to send to Leroy; I will have better pictures taken for the page. It's ticks me off that some knuckle head played with a knife of the reverse.

Some of the things I noticed is she has a small die chip on the cap near the leaf closes to the cap and the cap fold.
Liberty is shifted to the left slightly, has a small gouge in the top of L and a tick in the letters ERT, but virtually bear of polishing marks
Cap ribbon is not solid and has a gap.
Between the third and forth inner feathers on the left wing has a die marker.

I haven't seen this one before and I checked my 1878-P R79 reference book by Mark Witkower.

Looks like a 225A. The chip between the leaf and the cap fold is on my 225A.

Give me a little time and I will change my magnification to 30x, and take a couple shot of the LTF.

Lee, Felix, and Mark after increasing the magnification,I think you guys are correct, she may very well be a VAM-225A.
The spike is gone, and the LTF did not help me much either.
I guess she just a poor example of VAM-225A.
Thanks again, I appreciate your help and sticking with it.
