MS64+ with CAC Green Bean

Post by iceman » Tue Aug 11, 2020 11:21 am

Hi All
I picked up a 1879S rev 78 in PCGS MS64+ with a Green Bean CAC sticker . My question what are the odds
if I resubmit to PCGS for a Regrade to go for a MS65 . What are the ODDS ? I have to send it in anyways to get it attributed
for my Registry , it will go as a VAM4 Top of the Pop , But it really looks like it has a shot at MS65 . Have any of you submitted for a regrade and got higher with PCGS ? The regrade is supposed to go in blind as a coin , but the reconsideration program seems to make PCGS reluctant to give a higher grade . Im mulling this around . So just asking if anyone has had any luck with upgrades with the Green CAC sticker .

Thanks
John
Just asking from the experienced Crew of all of you .

Uphill climb for that date to get it to squeak by as a 65. It totally depends on the coin, not the plus, not the sticker. They thought it was close last time, but they could think otherwise next time. Also, CAC ignores the + when considering the coin for a sticker.

I have two pcgs ms 61 rev of 78. I looked at the pcgs prices and am surprised how little the + adds to the value of a 64. The jump to 65 is huge. I agree with messydesk as usual.

I think it adds more than is shown on CoinFacts. These have been climbing in value over the past few years, and it has been 19 months since a PCGS 64+ sold, whereas 64s have sold much more recently.

Ahh I didnt know about the CAC not considering the + on the grade . AHH and this is why I ask these questions . Very Interesting and a new variable to consider .
Thanks for that shared wisdom !!! Very Important to know .

If you send in for regrade, the coin is removed from the holder and is assigned a new certification number - at PCGS at least. When it is returned to you, in the same grade most of the time, yo have a new cert and a fresh holder and no green bean.
