Re: Fake coins & fake holders

Never heard the China rumor on dies, but maybe it will close the deficit.

Re: Maybe Off Topic, But Not By Much

Thanks I will check out the link.

I thought the video did a lot to help Ed Moy explain his perspective on a number of topics and it was the first interview I had seen with him.

Die Cracks, 3rd Supervisor, & Uncle Tom's Cabin

I just posted an April update to the 1881-O web site and this will pretty much get me back on schedule to have a May update during the month. I am back on the die crack study and think it will come faster now that I am back in action. The quest for information on the third Mint Supervisor, Robert M....

Maybe Off Topic, But Not By Much

Ed Moy seems to be a straight shooter and these two interviews on KITCO are worth the time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWY855esnPA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5UV5sVj88I I certainly had not heard of the individual States pushing for their own currency, which is allowed under the Constitutio...

Re: Name that crack game

I have been on this track with the 1881-O for several years and have just about all known VAMs documented. I believe these cracks are as unique as fingerprints and find them especially helpful when working with dies.

I also have the book, but not with me right now at this location. I found it helpful in the beginning but have not opened it in years because I feel like the information is dated.

1881-O Back in Motion Hopefully

I had hoped to have an update on the third Mint Supervisor, Robert M. McAlpin, but that information has proven to be so elusive that I cannot yet present a solid picture of his tenure. Along the way I stumbled across a Congressional Committee report from 1842 that I thought I would document while se...

Re: I missed one

I believe all true and I have been cutting them a lot of slack because of Covid. But one of my recent submission has now run to 110 days without moving down the line. Hopefully my contacting them will get it moving, but it seems awfully slow and things seem to just get lost.

I missed one

I definitely missed the article explaining that PCGS had been purchased in a stock buy with some private capital or VC guys taking over. Could this be a the heart of some of the issues with them? Will they survive?

Re: whats a 1881 o VAM 33B worth?

Sorry I missed this question I have only been able to find one of these and it was not identified as a 33B or it would have been much more expensive. I paid $50 for an MS62 but think it is worth much more. It is certainly more rare than the 1D or 5 and I think should be priced closer to a VAM 27, bu...

Re: Buy the Holder, Not the Coin(s)

Someone please explain to me why you would ever want to pair two coins in one slab? Maybe if they are attributable to one collector? But why even then since they have to be sold as a pair and the storage would be a nightmare since this would be an odd size. I am learning in my Comitia Americana meda...

Re: ANA, Will it survive?

I certainly agree with Roger, except for the North Georgia reference. Banjo playing here is still big and we actually have the state champion living just a mile or so down the road. I cannot see how they remain relevant. PCGS and NGC have taken over grading and are much more present in the marketpla...

ANA, Will it survive?

I got an interesting note from the ANA yesterday almost begging people to run for the board. That got me curious so i went to their web site and checked their finances. It looks to me like they lost $1.5 million in 2019, so pre Covid. Do they have a white knight or is this the beginning of the end f...

Re: Covid Shots

Well I have been in semi-lockdown for a year. For me there is more upside potential in taking the shot.

My recommendation based on my experience would be get it if you can.

If you are willing to take the risk by not getting it, that is your choice.

Re: Covid Shots

One thing we learned is that out of caution many or most people registered in two or three places. As they got a shot they released the other one or two and suddenly there was an abundance of vaccine. So check around for the Moderna or Phiser, they might be out there and just not well advertised. We...

Re: Covid Shots

If you have a chance to get the others I would take it and not wait. One unintended benefit that my wife and I didn't realize was anxiety. There was a big feeling of relief once we got the shot.
