Re: 1921 "Mush" - strike? Post Mint Damage? Acid Treatment?

Look, I'm not saying this dollar has not had a rough life. But if I showed you this: one.jpg Would you say polished to death? This, perhaps. two.jpg The pattern here, especially on the obverse, shows tremendous control over whatever process was applied. To what end? Clearly not to make it shiny.

Re: 1921 "Mush" - strike? Post Mint Damage? Acid Treatment?

I've got a 1921 very similar to this one (it is around here somewhere). I'm not sure that over-polishing explains this. The obverse has pretty good detail but fades off at "UNUM". The reverse looks OK for most of the wreaths and the eagle's tail. The matte finish doesn't suggest polishing either. I ...

Re: 1921-P Morgan Vam-15 question

Glad to help.

I do not have an example of 1L in hand, but the "AM" cracks certainly matched the photos.

Re: Suggestion - Would a standard reference grid make attribution easier?

I'm using this layout to sort out cracks on 1921 Morgans (it is very much a work in progress and not ready for prime time).

Sort of a connect the dots approach.

Re: OT - What would you do?

Pre-Covid, I would get a cheap SW ticket and deliver it. Can get 60lbs in the overhead and/or under the seat. I did that once too. Direct flight to buyer's city, he met me at the bottom of the escalator and we had coffee a few steps away. Then I handed him my carry-on bag, went back up the escalato...

I guess I missed my point... When was the first time you heard this term used? I only
have in the last 6 months or so.
About the same time frame for me.

Re: OT - Constitutional silver?

The only place gold and silver show up in the constitution is in Article I Section 10 - Powers Denied to the States. That section prohibits states from making "...any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts..."

And yes, the 21-P is the only one (so far!) that shows 157 reeds. Note that all but one also have the D1 reverse.

Re: wide reeding

If you check the 21 pages you will find:

21-P 1AB Reported with 180 reeds

21-D 1EN2 Reported with 181 reeds

21-S 1B2 Reported with 186 reeds

I would bet money that these are typos on the attribution pages and not reflected in the actual reeding.

Re: Morgan 1921-S VAM-1BF

Thanks.

21-S coins generally have "soft" details, are often weakly struck, etc. On this one I fell victim to the scribbles and immediately went to the 21-P scribbles page without a second thought.

Morgan 1921-S VAM-1BF

I tried to make this thing into a 21-P D2 reverse. WIN_20200725_08_07_28_Pro.jpg WIN_20200725_08_06_22_Pro.jpg But I finally ran the scribbles (and the UTF gouge) to 1921-S VAM-1BF. WIN_20200725_08_06_50_Pro.jpg You can kinda see the mostly filled "S" mint mark under high magnification, but it is vi...
