Re: 1921-Ps back from LVA

Thanks for sharing, and congratulations. I hope this is an indication that Leroy and Marilyn are doing better.
I've been reluctant to send anything for a while.

I agree. And could add a few of my own horror stories.
To compound difficulties, they are no longer answering the phones (as though COVID is transmittable over phone lines.)
My image of the future includes more coin shows where the middle man is eliminated.

Re: O/T... Cool Newp... WWII WLH Dogtag!

Chris, that isn't a hole that broke out. My father was a Naval Reservist that served on active duty in the Pacific theater of operations in WWII. It happens. Dog tags get caught on things and get pulled off and lost in the heat of the moment. If they didn't, they wouldn't come with breakaway chains....

PayPal changes for gold sales...

I just got my notice from PayPal indicating some policy changes for the sales of gold.
Though I haven't sold many gold coins on ebay, I'm stocking up with the intention of doing so.
I'm not sure how the new policies may affect me.
Any input is appreciated.

Re: Great Collections web site

I've had many good experiences with Great Collections. They had a NGC label listed VAM that was mis-attributed. When I called Ian Russell, he took care of the problem immediately, in a way that was satisfying to both the buyer and sell. Perhaps if enough of us contacted Great Collections and told th...

Re: Press feeder/ejector gouges - Are these counted as VAM varieties?

In my opinion, feed finger marks on the die are just another form of die wear.
In the extreme, as with pitting, erosion and polishing, it may be considered a separate VAM.
I am glad I'm not the one that has to determine where the line is drawn.

Re: 1888-S Morgan Dollar Die Study

I find your die charts very helpful, and I thank you for you research.
I hope some day you will render an opinion on the 1904-O VAMs 29 and 47 reverse dies.

Re: A Time Capsule of Prices

Prior to Treasury sales, the 1904-O was considered a scarce and pricey coin. As an engineering student, I signed up for silver smithing classes when the Hunt brothers were driving silver towards $50. And I recall selling a stack of gold American Eagles when the purchase price was $200/oz, to pay a d...

John, as much as I too would like for Leroy to view a few of my coins, that is not what is important.
I think you summed up the situation very well, and have my complete support.
Prayers for Leroy and Marilyn.

It appears to be a Colonial Mexican coin.
Value is 4 Reals.
Minted 1542-1555 under Carlos I.
I am not familiar with the G-M mint mark.

I may not soon recover the investments I put into VAMs, but the fun and the learning experience is worth a million dollars. Special thanks to Alan, JR, JB and so many others that have given me their time and wisdom. And who knows, if the market turns, my '04-O reference set may someday be worth some...

My humble opinion only, Morganman, but I think the coins you are offering (especially the gold) are a more attractive investment than than paper promises.
I'm in agreement with you on this one.
