Re: 1921-P Morgan Mystery

The original VAM 2 was not an infrequent reeding listing. It was a generic D2 with claimed reverse doubling that's on pretty much all of them. The holder doesn't say it is infrequent reeding. Listings have changed multiple times over the years and this is one of them. And yeah, slabbed about twenty...

It also is a DDR at AMERICA, though in the opposite direction than the 3C.

1921-P Morgan Mystery

I am sure I was not the only one to see this one at GC. It was in an old ANACS attribution of VAM-2. That was the catch-all for the wide reed varieties in the original listings. However, the reverse die was D1 in the listings, well before the VAM-44 was discovered. It was plain as day that the rever...

Re: Jack Lee Coins - WOW!

He was a rival in prooflike Morgans. Bested me mostly, but I got him on a few. Last I knew, before he died, he was doing ultra high grade Lincolns. Just watched him bid them. He was a rare bird being a such great collector and dealer.

I like the design elements. Beats the dead presidents and uninspired reverse monuments on ours.

Re: OT A Little

The really unfortunate (by design) element is the 69/70 grade BS. Anyone who collects REAL coins could not fathom a significant enough difference to warrant the enormous retail spread. The TPGs (one in particular of course) welcome the nonsense. I honestly cannot tell the difference between a 69 and...

Re: OT A Little

I have always had the approach of enjoying coins that present as absolute rarities, with conditional rarities secondarily. Many others collect differently. Most of us in the old days did the Lincoln cent Whitman albums. Completion was fun, but the focus was always on the real keys. A lot of us, in f...

Re: 2021 Morgans Postponed

Well if we needed any confirmation that the Mint is collaborating with dealers and leaving consumers out in the cold just look at eBay. There are a lot of dealers selling the privy coins in lots of 10 or more. Not so sure that there is a direct collaboration. Simply dealers who dedicated personnel ...

The reverse looks a little like that of VAM-8/8A. The obverse probably not.

A label is a label. A late dealer friend, Mike DeFalco, used to more broadly condemn the whole game as 'paralyzed by plastic.'

Re: Apply VamWorld Knowledge gently to your other areas

I am in the middle of writing an attribution guide for another series. It was the same period and thus the same cast of characters at the mints. So, obviously look for the same variety issues that are among the early Morgan dates at those same mints. Also gives me a pretty informed preunderstanding...

Mine too. Got 10 CC and 10 O.

Will be able to gauge the site health there by how soon replies here trickle in. Many are probably focused on it and doing countless browser refreshes.
