i have seen many, many "vam 11a's". i don't think it is an r6. it is so easily identifiable by the length and strength of the break. it is also the stage that the counterfeiters copied when they made the reverse for a number of "privately made' dollars.

is this item struck into the die, or is it something that was struck onto, and retained on the coin?

looks real to me but abused. the genral softness and beveling of the devices does not appear as they do on the "privately made" series.

how could the Y show if there was something on the die that obstructed it?
