Re: 1892-S VAM-8 Hit List 40 Obverse

John, the VNA designation is a placeholder for "VAM Not Assigned". What you show for your VNA-13 example looks solid. My point was that the tripled hair curl obverse die was used with two different reverse dies. One of them is unlisted, however both reverse dies have mint mark placements that could ...

1892-S VAM-8 Hit List 40 Obverse

The 1892-S VAM-8 Hit List 40 coin actually was used with two different reverse dies. I guess both die marriages would be Hit List 40 coins.

1892-S VAM-2 Top 100 Reverse Dies

Likely not mind-blowing, but the VAM-2 obverse die was married to three different reverse dies, not two as currently documented. The third use of the obverse die is pretty devoid of the doubled date, so I would surmise that it would not be listed as a Top 100 coin unlike the VAM-2 and VAM-7. Photo C...

I assume you both know the 1904-O V33A doesn't exist.

Re: Which 1892-S is this?

Yeah, I have seen several examples of this die pair on auction photo sites. There is a much LDS than yours out there. But that being said, you could have a die state of VAM-9. Have you stared at that one?

Re: Which 1892-S is this?

Dennis, the reverse die was used first in the VAM-3 die marriage, and then ended up with a new obverse die to create the die marriage you have. It looks like the reverse die was polished prior to the new marriage. Is the obverse die also polished? I have not found a VAM-3 yet with the chip at the re...

Re: Which 1892-S is this?

Normal date, mint mark centered & upright (within tolerance). If it was mine, I would put a VAM-1 sticker on it. The slightly slanted date might get LVA's attention, but I am not sure of his "tolerance" for this type of thing.

Re: 1921-P VAM-3FF in SSDC

Lee, from my experience, folks attribute a coin as a certain VAM, enter it into the Registry, then forget about it. They do not check attributions that change over time and correct their Registry listings. Hence why red-haired step-children remain listed. I have tried to post announcements in this s...

Re: What did I just step in??

The V45 Die 3 is kinda cool. As the VW page states, the obverse die is a LDS polished down version of the V45A obverse die, married with a new unclashed reverse die. The V45 Die 3 is available with enough looking. But it is cool in PL when you can find it. The 1902-O VAM-45 is obviously treated as a...

I think you have gotten the best advice you can get on this board, and the other board you posted on. Send them in to NGC and see. Why hesitate if you are convinced you are right? I hope your are right, but I doubt it. You can always shove it in our faces if we are wrong

Time Stamps

It seems many users do not have the correct time stamp. Just look at the Discussion Board and the "times" they posted. If you desire to correct this, go to your Sign-In Name on the upper right hand corner. Choose 'User Control Panel". Then check "Board Preferences". Then hit "Edit Global Settings". ...

And I guess I should clarify further, the VAM-16 and VAM-16A are completely different die pairs. Go figure.

Re: 1881-O Update for June

If you want a real life example, compare the photos of the 1903-O VAM-7 and VAM-16A on the old VW site. They are both the same die pair. The V16A is the LDS of V7. Now, how did this happen?

Re: 1881-O Update for June

I think the culprit is sending a single coin to LVA with a feature "not listed", and that is all he has to look at when he lists something. He does not have a catalog of coins to refer back to. I have said many times, surround your supposed "new listing" coin with others that tell Leroy a story. Oth...

I am sure you have had this happen before. When perusing online auction photos, occasionally there is an anomaly in photos that just can't be true. Here is a recent example I ran across.
