New take on 1889 VAM 23A

Some of you are familiar with some of the background on this story, but it is now official . I opened today's mail and I had a letter from Leroy along with a group of pieces I had sent him. I was expecting to have to drive up with the loaner example of the VAM 23A I've been sitting on, but my offer ...

Or they are tanking the program so they can shutter it without any meaningful opposition.

Re: Rim Error 1887 O

Yeah, a broken collar looks very different and it's kind of a shame to put it in a slab - hides the effect. I'd think this is an early strike from a collar clashed die. See the other thread I bumped up. Now picture that die not being able to push outward the way it's intended to because of the pictu...

Re: 80s... v7/94 obv... NOT Rev of either?... Leroy?

Now in fairness, that revision that eliminated the old VAM 36 (what we now have listed as 7) was an attempt to clean up a listing - it just happened to be wrong.

Re: 80s... v7/94 obv... NOT Rev of either?... Leroy?

That's the original VAM 7. The revision eliminating VAM 36 has always been questionable at best in my opinion. If you send it in you'll likely end up with a VAM 94 attribution. Without a comprehensive and simultaneous study, this sort of thing will continue ad nauseam

Re: 1880 P 1A series

There's no clearly defined answer here, and splitting the listing has created two grey areas of transition where it had been one before. For me (and ANACS if it crosses my desk) a Knobbed 8 needs a knob on it. The comparison JB made to the Scarface is spot on. I may have done a few pieces similar to...
