Re: Government shuts down West Point - What do you think that will do to GOLD PRICES / COINS!

It is interesting and I guess could have some effect on coins like the Gold Buffalo or others minted there if they don't pick the production back up later.

Finally an update for March and April

Well between the virus and relocating family, March just did not exist. I have done one update for March-April and that will let me catch up http://www.1881o.com/2020-03_04.html I believe I have all the VAMs and coins for Reverse Die n resolved except for one that may prove to be a new pairing. But ...

Re: CAC

Well there is an unknown and unknowable here.

If the CAC coins did best, but they were all higher grade coins, how would they have done without the sticker?

Re: CAC

Here is an interesting article on CoinWeek this morning https://coinweek.com/education/coin-grading/auctions-remain-strong-for-cac-coins-amid-pandemic/ Clearly the market sees value we don't see Maybe when times get hard/uncertain investors want an extra measure of comfort before buying? This may al...

Re: CAC

I think you are right and if they think the coin might be over graded they just do nothing. I also think there is some sticker that says it is under graded or superior for the grade. But that puts their over graded and not stickered coins in some kind of never-never-land that is like a secret poorly...

Re: California Collection

One of the downsides of all the virus stuff is learning that I am considered elderly, perhaps very elderly. A bit like checking the obits and learning that everyone who died is younger than you are.

We all need to enjoy the time we have, and collecting Morgans is a big piece of the joy.

Re: CAC

I would agree and have never quite understood the value. Checking the checker, auditing the auditor, etc. But perhaps you are paying for grade confirmation at the very top end. But what do you do with a PCGS MS67DMPL that CAC says no to the grade? Have you then destroyed the value rather than confir...

Re: California Collection

This brings up a suggestion- maybe we need a Written Biograghy about each individual who contributed to Vams/morgan $ collecting. All centralized in one designated place, for History and valuable insight. Sure would be a great compilation that would tie in well with VAMWORLD I think this is a great...

Re: RB's Request

I can personally attest to Roger's note on discovery. I had no idea about the interworking of the Mint and the formality used between employees when addressing what might be mundane issues. The formal salutations and writing style are so out of place today but typical of the era. Roger has noted, an...

Re: RB's Request

The transcribing is easy and just requires that the information go back to Roger formatted with a specific font, font size, and page margins. There was a little learning curve on punctuation and spelling issues, but Roger got me through that with a test run. I picked up on the need in March 29 E-Syl...

RB's Request

Roger recently asked for transcribers of official documents to aid in research. Since this benefits us all I decided I could use this time locked away in my house to transcribe at least one document per day. The documents are typically just one page long and can be done in just a few minutes. If we ...

Re: 81-O February Examination of VAMs 30, 37, 37A, 37B, and 59

My apologies, I said VAM 27 and was looking at a reference for Obverse Die 27. It is VAM 40 Check here https://www.1881o.com/vam01hmatrix.html and here https://www.1881o.com/vam40matrix.html I was about to all these two the same and then discovered on my VAM 40 examples a little gem you will see on ...

Re: 81-O February Examination of VAMs 30, 37, 37A, 37B, and 59

Well let's don't rule out that you found something, but this month is a mess trying to relocate family members and work with others. If I do a newsletter it will be late. I have it about half done but just had to stop for higher priorities. The die crack down through the nose is visible on VAM 27 ht...
