Re: Suggestion - Would a standard reference grid make attribution easier?

It seems to me that this idea has merit. So long as there is something, in this case Liberty's bust, that can be referenced as a fixed point, then all other elements of the design can be described relative to this fixed item. I am not sure as to the reference scale, but anything can be measured from...

Re: "House approves 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars"

Well there are a few things where the Mint is the only option. I have a First Spouse set and if you let these get to PCGS and then out to the market at grade 70 they are almost unaffordable. With these the Mint seems to be the best option unless you want to play the gold market and wait for a down c...

Re: "House approves 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars"

I would bet it winds up like the 2019-S Silver Eagles with a certificate and sells at a pretty good premium from the Mint. They receive a lot of criticism for a lack of creativity in design and the 2019-S got a lot of praise.

Re: O/T... "Price for U.S. Mint's 3-inch BRONZE medals to quadruple to $160"

Without some miracle return to the classic medals like the Comitia Americana series this seems to me to be a non-event. The older ones sell for pretty low premiums until you get into the really rare ones. I would bet that supply and demand brings these back down on the secondary market because of a ...

Re: Best Place to Keep My Little Treasures

I have a fireproof safe good for about 3 hours which is about all you can get I think without breaking the bank. Once you get a sizeable collection there is no bank that has the space to house them.

I think a bigger question is how do you insure them against fire or theft?

Re: Bags and rolls. Chain of events post punching.

And then there are the modern "forged" rolls where sellers make wrappers look old to make the coins more sellable. Often I have seen these with a "CC" on one end coin and who knows what on the inside.

Re: Key Date CC Cast Counterfeits

On eBay you know to look out for anything like this, but at a coin shop it would be my last visit. They have to buy them to resell and 99% chance they know. If they don't know even more reasons to move on.

Taking A Break

I have had a medical setback or two and have decided to take a break from my work on the 1881-O. Hopefully I will be back at it by the end of the year, but health needs to take priority.

Thanks to all who have supported the work and I will be back when I can.

Re: Ebay separating from Paypal

I haven't noticed PayPal being out of the transaction. Maybe that is coming, but I bought a coin yesterday with PayPal on eBay.

I have noticed that if you buy bullion it is now a double authentication process, which probably should have been done years ago.

Re: Where were we in 1981

Well I was actually restricting my thoughts to coin collecting, but the stocks were definitely a good point. In 1981 I had not collected since about 1960, so I was down to one coin. It was a Buffalo Nickel I received for my tenth birthday. It was an MS coin but in a 2x2 cardboard holder. I am sure t...
