pcgs website lists alot of vams in their price guide---

The Heritage Auction archives will be a source of many actual VAM sales, as opposed to the guesses PCGS makes.

It's that time again, even if this has been a year like no other. Get the finishing touches on those sets. Judgement day is drawing near. The awards themselves will be different this year. Instead of plaques, ANACS is doing 2020 sliver eagles in custom holders with the category and the winner's act...

If I were the consignor I would be incensed at the closeup photo lighting & angle that were used.

Wow! What a great find! No matter the grade!

It is not my coin. I found it in an auction. I copied the photos and posted them here as an educational experience.

An unfair "guess the grade" (Revealed)

I have not seen this coin in person.
It may be lovely in hand.
Some coins photograph better than others.
Some coins photograph worse.
It is graded by PCGS.

What grade does this coin look like to you?
It looks like MS63 to me.

Re: how clueless am I?

I badly messed up my value guess on the 1887 VAM 1A (now called 25A). Depending upon what kind of details problem it is and how severe it is, a graded XF would probably be more like $75. A raw coin would be more like $50.

My apologies.

Re: how clueless am I?

Tim: I'm very glad to help. Speaking of which... Does your 1900-P discovery coin paperwork include photos of key features taken by Mr. Van Allen? If so, VAMworld badly needs to get a high quality copy of them, so an attribution page can be created that shows other collectors (and those in the future...

Re: how clueless am I?

Hello Tim and welcome! There are no dumb questions when it comes to VAMs, except the ones we don't ask. And we're all clueless to some extent, because we're all constantly learning. Jan has quite the hode-podge of coins there. All are pretty common and the grades are modest at best. The 1893-S is by...

Re: 1921-P with nice N-clash

LVA liked this photo I sent him of a threadlike impression (?) that starts at the cap fold on what is now the VAM 3FT2... and it's also present on both earlier and later die state examples of 3FT that I sent him. He's going to include a photo of this feature in his 2020 Revisions update. 3FT LDS cla...

Here are additional pixs of 3HP. Please bear in mind that this discovery coin is virtually PL; later die state examples will no doubt lack some (or many) of the polishing lines shown.
