Re: 1889cc v4a

For something like this i would prioritize Leory over a customer personally. Especially with said coin being such an easy seller post-Leroy.

Re: USPS Shipping What a Joke

I've had zero issues save one or two where it took an extra day or two over expectation.. and i ship a LOT of USPS packages. I'm getting ready to ship another 40-60 packages in a week or so actually. Just my personal experience, FWIW.

Re: Virtual VAM Thing?

What is the deal with the cologne thing?🐍 Its the equivalent of Tiny's overalls at the Summer Seminar YN auction if you've been to that. If not, I'll let JR or JB explain more in depth but its basically a gag gift auctioned off to raise money for the SSDC.. O/T PS.. Sadly tho, with Tiny's passing t...

The cologne would have to stay with its current steward, though.
Burn! Didn't think of that. Who has it again? What a cherry on top of the dumpster fire that is 2020 for whoever ended up with that right before the shit hit the fan  :?

Re: New take on 1889 VAM 23A

Yeah, much thanks to EVERYONE involved in this. I was just the small spark that ignited the fire for the bucket brigade to douse. What a great experience for Leory, too. Getting to unlock the puzzle of the 23A.

JR, can you bring a copy of his letter for me to Fun? Thx.

Wow. Amazing to see what a coin sitting in my catch-all coin drawer for a few months until I pulled it out one day sparked. So wild.

Re: 1900-o

Also, if youre taking the pics with your phone and they won't upload try cropping the pic then uploading. You should crop out any empty space around full coin pics anyway but if youre posting close ups taken through a loupe crop a sliver off one end and it should then be accepted by the upload.

Re: LIKE IT or NOT?

I will take non detail AU58 all day. The staple scratch from ear through chin to rim *could* detail it. It's not deep but it is looong. If the light hits it in any way when twirling, even with it being shallow, I would personally kill it. Scratches like that are at the discretion of the grader tho....

Re: Any 1893 s specialists in the house?

I don't see the gouge at the hair tip/end (which is the main PUP used on low grade specimens) so if its in a PC holder I'd guess it's a fake coin in a fake slab straight from Ali.

Re: LIKE IT or NOT?

This is the kind of coin that can be tough to accurately grade from pics but im getting strong 55/58 vibes. The color makes you think BU but that belies the muted luster and slightly rounded/worn edges of the bag marks. Aside anything that could kill it we arent seeing in the pics I'd bet on 58 if i...

Re: Rim Error 1887 O

Yeah, a broken collar looks very different and it's kind of a shame to put it in a slab - hides the effect. I'd think this is an early strike from a collar clashed die. See the other thread I bumped up. Now picture that die not being able to push outward the way it's intended to because of the pict...

Broken Collar errors are a thing. Not sure if this is one or not tho. Patiently awaiting the Fount of Knowledge @vampicker to drop in on this thread 😎🧐

There's this thing called the VAM book...
Thanks for the subtle reminder to dust her off JR. The book is rarely my first -or second, in most cases- go-to. But it should be. I'd bet I'm not the only one with that predilection, either πŸ˜”
