How Rare Are These...

The contemporary counterfeits (1896-1902 O mint).
Maybe one 1902-O out of 100 is a cc?
Or one coin out of 1000?
More? Less?

Key Date CC Cast Counterfeits

Been seeing a lot of these lately. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1879-CC-Morgan-Silver-1-Dollar-Carson-City-Rare-74620/114333619297 (Go ahead and flag it, I saved the images to upload them). Have you guys been seeing these more recently lately? I used to see one every couple of weeks/months, now it seems...

Which one of you VAMMERS is going to bid on the 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar on October 8th https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/08/11/1794-flowing-hair-silver-dollar-10-million-for-sale-nj/3342208001/ That photo of Bruce makes me laugh every time I see it. Re: OT: Registered mail lunacy

Overnight w/ signature. I've still yet to find a safer shipping method. All the big dealers I've known have always used overnight (and private insurance). I've never had an overnight package lost yet. Priority Mail is pretty decent too - under most circumstances.

Re: Question for the experts - 1900-O VAM-24,25,26 O/O

I know this is impossible short of some drunken mint mix-up, but it almost looks like an O over a Large D. And I completely understand how improbable and problematic that it. I'm just at a loss. Hence my asking the walking encyclopedia's for their thoughts. John R, John B, Brian - does this look at ...

Re: Question for the experts - 1900-O VAM-24,25,26 O/O

What's most interesting, is that the center line is perfectly straight the whole way - no curvature at the top or bottom. What would seem to preclude an O/O or O/CC (and it would obviously rule out machine doubling as well). Truly bizarre.

Re: Question for the experts - 1900-O VAM-24,25,26 O/O

It doesn't help that the mintmark in the VAM 25 plate appears to be strike doubled. John, I have what appears to be a candidate for v26. But it seems much more dramatic than the text would imply (not sure where my big book is, so I haven't seen the plate). It looks almost like strike doubling it's ...

Re: Question for the experts - 1900-O VAM-24,25,26 O/O

In the SSDC registry, there are two VAM-24 listed. One of them is mine. It took ten years to find that one. There is one VAM-25 listed that is not mine and no VAM 26 listed. I look long and hard for examples and find none. But that does not mean they don't exist. Good luck in your quest. Outstandin...

Re: Question for the experts - 1900-O VAM-24,25,26 O/O

With so many eyes on 00-O mm's, I would think there would be dozens if not hundreds of specimens of each found.

Re: Was suggested to post here

The shadows on the full coin image dictate that it's incuse, not raised.
I have numerous identical looking grease strike thru's.
When grading, I saw hundreds of similar specimens.

Re: Anacs YELLOW Newer/New /Cameo on Holders

It helps to understand the dilemma of P & N. There are only so many coins to grade when it comes to Morgan & Peace dollars (which are a huge portion of coins graded). So they need to have a way to keep those same coins coming back to them. So grading standards drift over time. They introduce new des...
