Re: Back from LEROY - New 1921 P VAM 1AC3

I'm looking hard at my 1AC2 and trying to figure out what the difference is between it and 1AC3. :? Then again, I attributed it long before there was a 1AC3. :?: But after further loupe time, I've decided to stick with 1AC2. The key cracks just aren't as severe as on your 1AC3, and I can't squint e...

Re: Back from LEROY - New 1921 P VAM 1AC3

Congratulations Roger! And rats! Yet another new coin is needed for the '21-P date set. Does your new discovery still have heavy die polishing around STATES that is seen on 1AC2 ? Yes, there is heavy die polishing around STATES that is still crisp and sharp. Displaced field above A is develop...

Re: 1883 s Dropped Letter

That's pretty cool. As for which VAM it is, check mint mark position and other markers. Fogie added "empty nest" comments to both VAMs 12 and 13 last fall, but with no explanation of why. Fogie will also be trying like hell to get Roger to give that up once he sees it  Very, very cool! 😎 Thank...

Well I own an 1878 (of course!) V195 in PCGS 62 plastic with a "Dropped I" on the reverse. One of the neatest coins in my 78-P set; bought years ago for an incredibly cheap price to boot...

Re: 1922 S V1O

Clear this up. 1O or 10 or 1o All three are different. Visual interpretation of this VAM listing 1O is difficult because it resembles (ten) but is actually (one oh). There are solutions for this problem which are already in use for other VAM listings. The capital letter O can be signified with an a...

Re: 1922 S V1O

I now see that the original post was about 1922 S VAM 1O ( one oh ) NOT VAM 10 ( ten )
Thanks Bert for pointing that out !
The listing on the Page should read VAM 1o or 1'o' in order to avoid this confusion !!

Re: Key 1921 P Sleeper Pick

VAM 8B. Nice. Take a careful look for a crack from the back of the cap to the left foot of M. The one on my coin (PCGS-64) is very weak and easy to miss. And LVA wrote that rarity comment 11 years ago. There are 6 examples registered at SSDC which, admittedly, makes it pretty scarce. On the other h...

1883 s Dropped Letter

Extremely random occurrence caused by compacted debris inside the recessed letter "D" on the reverse die which then falls out prior to striking the planchet. This compacted form of the letter "D" is struck into the planchet, wherever it happens to land, causing an incuse imprinted "D". Double "D" DO...
