Re: One Cool Mint Error

I would be in on the PMD side. The "damage" clearly happened AFTER the coin was struck (on a strike thru you do not have the details from the die in the strike thru - the details are struck ON the obstruction). Item -- I posted a 1976 copper nickel IKE dollar on this forum PCGS MS 63 Mint Error 20%...

Re: One Cool Mint Error

A metal shard caused the obverse strike thru because die design was transferred onto the coin's depressed surface. Typically, a coin metal shard (silver) is the culprit when design transfer is this complete. The reverse strike thru shows the much more common type of debris clogged devices that appea...

Re: Peace dollar Slanted reverses

According to posted images, your 1922 P Peace Dollar displays a minor rotated reverse of around 10 degrees counter clockwise. Rotated dies less than 15 degrees don't bring any premium. Major rotated dies of 90 degrees or more bring significant premiums. Die rotations are measured on a 180 degree sca...

Nice pick Tom ! Your photo captures the displaced field adjacent to the radial die crack break through N and E exceptionally well.

Re: 21-D V-1i EDS

Die chip left of N (UNITED) is PUP on VAM 1i and pictured coin appears to be an earlier die stage. Diagonal die crack still visible in denticles. LVA was reluctant to designate new VAM until I pointed out gouges at denticles above S O (STATES OF) and verticle gouge through US (trust) which resulted ...

Horned O Die Break Progression Update - Back from LEROY

Just submitted a 1921 D VAM 1BQ LDS "Horned O" die break progression with LVA. Wonder how many collectors are enamored with "Horned O" die break Morgans? Specimen submitted is also loaded with obverse and reverse displaced field breaks, die break A, die break E (top left) AMERICA, die break E (top l...

Re: 1879 O Doubled Die Obverse and Reverse

I tried it from every angle and mine does not have the curved lines inside the mint mark. It has a die crack but not in the same position. When I sent it in I asked to check for errors and all they did was grade it. Shouldn't they have at least told me if it was a VAM? Thanks for your time Bert. Ho...

Re: 1888 Struck Thru?

Very interesting ! Struck Thru errors on silver dollars vary greatly relative to the intrusive debris. The subject coin displays an unusual herringbone pattern that is both singular and overlapping. The diagonal linear path from between the stars across the cheek changes to a curving lateral over th...
